FuZhu's Garden
Immersive Installation (2024)
2025 SONA Immersive Storytelling Festival
2024 Exhibited at the Kenner Room, PA

SONA
Identified problem space:
While discussing cultural interests, my friend introduced me to Shanhai Jing
(Classic of Mountains and Seas) and I became fascinated with how mythological creatures often embody unexplainable natural disasters. .
How can we revive forgotten minor cultural myths through immersive media to connect current generations to the past?
Touch the water filled ceramic pot (touch sensor enabled) to trigger the installation,
as FuZhu's myth mirrors the fleeting nature of immersive media- forgotten yet remembered, present yet physically intangible without the medium to sustain it.

Reflections:
Working on a project with cultural value was meaningful, although I was initially unfamiliar with Chinese mythology as a Korean American. I have learned so much through my friend who has originally introduced me to the Shanhai Jing, about both her cultural heritage and the importance of preserving ancient mythologies.
Immersive media has always been compelling, and I am thrilled that FuZhu's Garden has reached the greater audience through its exhibition and main cover feature at 2025 Sona.
I thank everyone who has contributed to this project, I am grateful for their kindness and collaborative efforts.
